【NEWS】140430 Joo Won confirms he will play Chiaki-senpai in Korean version of Nodame Cantabile

Does the Korean actor Joo Won specialize in playing genius characters now? In his last drama, Good Doctor, he was a doctor who had a savant syndrome, and now Joo Won will play a genius musician. He has finally confirmed that he will star in the Korean version of the sensationally popular Japanese drama, Nodame Cantabile.

On the 29th of April in Korea, Joo Won’s agency, Sim Entertainment revealed that Joo Won has decided to star in the Korean version Nodame Cantabile, which will air through KBS 2TV on every Mon/Tues. Joo Won will play the cynical and eccentric genius musician Chiaki Shinichi, who Tamaki Hiroshi played in Japanese drama.

Nodame Cantabileis is a classic music-themed J-drama based on the hit comic book by Tomoko Ninomiya. Beginning in 2001, the comic was serialized in a comic magazine and published in 23 books. Over 26 million copies have since sold. It was made into a drama and movie and then gained great popularity in Asia, including among Korean people. Fuji TV aired this drama from October to December of 2006, starring Ueno Juri as Noda Megumi and Tamaki Hiroshi as Chiaki Shinichi.
For the main lead character Nodame, Korean actress Shim Eun Kyung’s name is motioned but it hasn't been decided yet. On the same day, her agency, BH Entertainment said that it was true that she was offered to star in the drama but it hasn't been decided yet. Netizens who have heard this news have showed their interest and expectation. However, there are some fans who expressed their concern over whether Joo Won, who has warm image, will suit the cynical and cold character or not.

The drama is expected to air in October after Trot’s Lover which will air following Big Man.
